Project Natal/Kinect

How about going one step further and getting rid of all the cables and devices? Project Natal (officially called Kinect), movement recognition system invented by Microsoft eliminates the need for any controller. This gives freedom and creates a new dimension of wireless relationship with the reality depicted on the screen. Player gains here a literal ‘extension of his/her body’ in a fictional world in which one can interact directly and which becomes more realistic. What is more, not only does the body affect the events on the screen, but it is also dealing with feedback-player is immersed in another reality, which forces him/her to react to stimuli from the screen. Hence computer games can be used to exercise and training. For some time now exergames (games and exercises) are being developed. Like a real workout this games allow user to stay in shape.
The introduction of this technology on the market could revolutionize the electronics industry. Any affordable price would let an average user bring an advanced technology to their home. Kinect can be a tempting alternative to complex and costly systems, such as the CAVE. Autumn 2010 will show if the project proves a hit, because Microsoft announces the launch of the gadget on November 4th.
